Facilities
After
a three-year period of restoration of the buildings and grounds, 'Les
Roullets' is today considered one of the most beautiful domains in the
area. Persons who appreciate a mixture of luxury and style - without an
excess of frills and finery - in a historic setting, combining antique
elements and modern conveniences, will certainly feel very much at home
here.
In
addition to the wealth of opportunities available in the region, you are
of course welcome to take a tour of the grounds, including a 700 year
old oak tree, a medieval washing place, and an underground flight of
stairs leading to an irrigation system from the Roman era. You can also
make use of the various strategically located seating arrangements
offering beautiful views of the countryside. In addition to the vineyard
(producing a biological AOC Côte de Luberon Rouge), the estate contains
a fruit orchard, olive orchards and wooded areas. Due
to its unique location (offering a circular 360° view), the main
building served as an ‘oppidum’ (small garrison) during the Roman
era; in the Middle Ages, during the religious wars that raged in this
region between Catholics and Protestants, it served as a ‘mas fortifié’
(fortified farmstead).
A
heated swimming pool with pool house, an outdoor refrigerator with
drinks, and large terraces with luxurious sun beds will help you pass
the time away quite pleasantly. Wireless Internet is available. Guests
also have exclusive access to a tree-lined courtyard surrounded by a
wall and offering a view of the deserted village Oppède-le-Vieux.
The Dutch owners speak English, French, German, Italian and Spanish and focus on an international public. Aperitifs are frequently offered in the afternoon, and lunch or dinner is sometimes prepared for the guests. |
